Boudoir Beauties: Make Undressing Look Effortless

Boudoir BeautiesThere’s a sensual art to disrobing. Most of us get awkwardly tripped up in our blue jeans, god forbid we try our evening wear -- hopping hopelessly until we tumble over. Then there are seasoned burlesque performers, like the fancy ladies of the Boudoir Beauties: They just shimmy a hip and their nighties dance down to the floor. What gives?

Well, apparently the illusion of effortless sex appeal takes a hell of a lot of practice. “I’ve been in the theater for 22 years, so I had a lot of acting and dance experience,” explains the glamorous Crimson Boudoir (who, in real life goes by Garrett McConnell.) But it wasn’t until she had an immersion education in New York’s bustling burlesque scene that Ms. Boudoir thought to use her stage antics in a less traditional fashion: She started producing her own Vaudevillian shticks. Eventually, she began training others to do the same. Her Florida troupe, the Boudoir Beauties, uses equal parts humor and sex in their retro acts – squashing the stigma that burlesque is equivalent of stripping. They also use specific techniques that keep the dances rooted firmly in the then: the glove peel, the stocking peel, and the dress kick. Crimson assures you that moves like that dress kick don’t just happen: “You would think it would be really easy, but it’s hard. You’d be surprised how many girls get tangled up in the dress.” And then again, maybe you wouldn’t.
