Burlesque make-up video guide

How To Pull Off The Burlesque Look

Celebrity make-up artist Jo Adams shows you how to create maximum impact and glamour with the burlesque look.

Cleanse, tone and moisturise
Use concealer as a base, applied with a brush. Apply on the eyelids and around the lips.
Apply creamy concealer under the eyes.
Set with a light, translucent powder.
Blot shiny areas of the face with a powder puff.
Groom your eyebrows and brush eyebrow powder through them for a neat finish. Set your eyebrows with clear gel.
Apply a neutral coloured eyeshadow all over your eyelids. Apply a shimmery highlighter colour under the eyebrows. Use a taupe colour in the socket line to sculpt the eye socket.
Apply eye liner with a pencil before using liquid liner. Use an angled brush to lengthen out the pencil line.
Create a 'flick' by placing the brush at an angle on the outer corner of each eye and join it to the original line. Go over the pencil line with liquid eye liner.
Apply bronzer to sculpt the cheeks and face. Apply a pink powder blush on the apples of the cheeks to create a base before applying denser cream blush.
Mascara should be applied in a zig-zag motion to cover the lashes.
Use highlighter under the eyes to catch the light. Applying white eye liner to the inner rims of your eyes will help to widen them.
Create a dramatic look by applying fake eyelashes, Trim to fit and apply at the base of the eyelids. Once they have set, hide the join by applying eye liner over the top.
Use a pink lip liner to exaggerate your lips. Apply lip-gloss with a brush for a more accurate finish.
Finish the look with a bit of sparkle - apply glitter mascara to your eyelids, which will act as a glue for a layer of loose glitter.
