Beatrix von Bourbon brings Burlesque back to the Palace

Beatrix von BourbonThings are getting saucy at Bridport's Palace cinema - with the first striptease there since 1926.

The first in a new series of live cabaret acts will feature burlesque striptease thanks to 23-year-old Beatrix von Bourbon (pictured Beatrix modelling for Lulu Loves You") and her co-star Diva Hollywood.

Cinema owner Peter Hitchin says she fits the bill perfectly for his ambition to stage regular cabaret shows and booked her to appear for the first time in Bridport on Friday, April 18.

Beatrix started performing burlesque striptease in April 2006 and won the Ministry of Burlesque Awards Best Newcomer Award in 2007. Her work is inspired by her love of 1940s Hollywood glamour.

She says: "The revealed human body is not something to be ashamed of. We all have bodies and I think that embracing one's body and using it creatively is one of the most liberating things we can do.

My love of 1940s Hollywood glamour introduced me to burlesque, and I connected with the art-form immediately.

"Burlesque striptease gave me a sense of identity; I find it difficult to relate to the bump and grind sexuality of today's media.

"My motivation in performing burlesque striptease is to encourage audiences to recognise that the revealed human body need not be over-flowing with a ferocious sexual charge, nor something to be ashamed of."

Diva Hollywood made her debut in the famous Slipper Room in New York in 2005. Since then she has gone on to grace many stages.

Also in the cabaret is Canadian singer Katya Gorrie, who featured on Radio 2 recently as part of Ned Sherrin's music quiz show Counterpoint. She is a vocalist, performer and composer from Vancouver, Canada, now living and working in the UK.
