The 40s and 50s were a time of perfect skin paired with trimmed eyebrows, detailed eyes and lips. It's a hard look to achieve without looking overdone so choose one thing from the 40s face to replicate. We love Dita’s dark red lips which are simple to achieve.

First moisturise lips with a rich balm and pat over a little foundation to cancel out your lip colour and give the lipstick something to stick to.

Next line the lips to get a smooth finish. If you're confident use a sharp lip pencil, otherwise try a liquid lip liner or line lips with lipstick and a small lip brush.

Apply your lipstick using a lip brush from the outside in, taking care not to go over your lip line. If your lips tend to bleed you may benefit from blotting and a second application.

To make the lips ‘pop’ apply a dab of red lip gloss to the middle of the bottom lip... vintage-a-licious!
